Friday, February 27, 2015
Assalamu Alaikum Dear Parents
Here are the news from the French class:
Our daily routine is drilling the vocabulary related to our daily activities (opposites, gender, and numbers). We are talking about activities at school or at home. Al Hamdulillah, students are improving in expressing their basic needs in French during French class.
We are almost done  our first story “Les Trois Petits Cochons” and we will start soon the next story, Insha’a Allah. We are working on les questions partielles and sentence structure: capital letter and punctuation as well as subject defined as who does the action word and verb defined as the action word.
Update:
·         Tuesday, March 3, we are having the 4rd French test: spelling, les questions  partielles.
·         The spelling list for Tuesday is:
1.       Qui?                                               7.  Comment?
2.       Qu’est-ce que?                         8.  automne
3.       Pourquoi?                                   9.  hiver
4.       Parce quel                                   10. printemps
5.       Oŭ?                                                11.  été
6.       Quand?                                        12.  La saison
·         Les Questions partielles are related to the story. We are working on the same activity in class. We already did and corrected some questions in class.
Jazakum Allah Kheiran for your cooperation and your support.

An Update and a THANK YOU - 3A Tr. Fatima

AA Parents,

I just wanted to give a big thank you to our volunteers who came out and volunteered today (Museum) and also 2 weeks ago (winterlude). Our field trips could not have been possible without you. Again JAK for taking time out of your own busy schedule!

A few updates to mention

Language: Students are to complete lesson 20 in their Spelling Spectrum - Be ready for spelling test Monday. We will also begin looking closer at proof reading marks (proper punctuation, capitalization etc.). We will continue practicing proper paragraph writing (indenting, topics etc). We have started our weekly guided reading groups with students - practice reading with a small group that have the same or similar reading levels; practicing predictions and reading comprehension. Finally, we will start a class novel study (more information to come soon).

Social Studies: We have started our new Unit in Early Settlers: more information about this will be on a separate blog post.

Islamic Studies: Discussing and writing about The Boycott Against the Prophet and his family. The writing for this is due this Friday (Students have already started writing this in class).

Stay warm :)

Math new chapter: Multiplication

AA dear parents,

Over the next 2 weeks in sha'Allah, your child will be learning about multiplication. Students will use skip counting and repeated addition to develop an understanding of the multiplication facts up to 7× 7. It is important for students to understand what it means to group items before they are asked to memorize multiplication facts. Once your child has this understanding, he or she will learn strategies to begin memorizing facts. At the end of the chapter, your child will use knowledge of multiplication to solve everyday problems.
Throughout this time, you and your child may do some activities such as:

  • Your child can look around the house to find things that come in groups, such as packages of food or household items (e.g: juice boxes, eggs, batteries...) Make a list of the items and the size of each group.
  • Your child can look through grocery store flyers for items sold in groups, recording the items, the size of the groups, and its price..

Language/Social Studies Update - Tr. Fatima

AA Parents,

I hope all is well inshalla. We have completed our unit about FABLES. Students really enjoyed reading the stories, acting them out and writing about them. We will continue with EQAO packages weekly. And of course we will continue with our weekly spelling work.

For Social Studies we are almost down with our mapping unit. Students have been researching information about different provinces on their own time. Remember to check out some of the interactive online games. Our next unit is Early Settlers/ Pioneers in Upper Canada (more information to come!)

JAK for all your help at home :)
