PST presents: ---- Starr Gymnastics & Fitness Experience ---



PST PRESENTS....


 

The Starr Gymnastics & Fitness Satellite School Experience is coming to Abraar School!!! 

WHEN: April 29th & 30th! 


The workshop is an opportunity for students from Kindergarten to Grade 3 to experience tumbling, jumping, spatial orientation and fitness challenges in a 40 minute dynamic and engaging presentation. The program is delivered by one of Starr's Master Instructors, who brings a trailer full of equipment, sets up and takes down all of the stations over two days. 

The workshop was created following the OPHEA Guidelines and is suitable for all grades and fitness levels. There are challenges for everyone, and there is always a high level of participation. Even students who tends to be shy during regular DPA or phys-ed are known to really "jump in" to the workshop.

PLEASE NOTE: Students are expected to come in comfortable clothing suitable for gym activities ( pants, t-shirt, sweat pants, etc) long skirts and dresses are not recommended.

Assalamu Alaikum Dear Parents

Here is the news from the French class:

Our daily routine is drilling the vocabulary related to our daily activities (opposites, gender, and numbers). We are

talking about activities at school or at home. Al Hamdulillah, students are improving in expressing their basic needs in

French and talking in French while working with a partner during French class.

We have started our new story “Le Chat et la Lune”. This is a simplified interpretation of the famous story “The Sky is

falling”. We did already 2 reading comprehension activities related to this story and we are working on the third one Les

Questions Totales. Through our activities we are reviewing also some grammar concepts like gender, number, subject

and verb as well as sentence structure and punctuation.

In mid May, Insha’a Allah we will have the French café. To prepare students for this event we will start also working on

the vocabulary related to French Café setting.

Update:

 Tuesday, April 28, we are having the 5th French test: spelling, choisis le bon mot, les mots en ordre.

 The spelling list for Tuesday is:

1. le père

2. la mère 7.  la cousine

3. le frère 8. l’oncle

4. la soeur 9.  la tante

5. le grand-père 10.la famille

6. la grand-mère  11.le cousin

 Choisis le bon mot and Les mots en ordre are related to the new story. We already did these 2 activities and

corrected them in class.

Math chapter 14: Patterns and Motion in Geometry

Dear Parent:

Over the next two weeks, your child will be learning about movement and patterns in geometry that involve flips, slides, and turns. They will also be learning about patterns that use these movements. The goal for your child will be to identify and perform a variety of flips, slides, and turns independently, and to compare, extend, and create a variety of patterns involving 2-D geometric shapes and their movements.

Throughout this time, you and your child can do some activities such as:

• Your child can identify things around the house that show flips, slides, and turns. These may appear in pictures, book covers, clothing designs, wallpaper patterns, board games, or the images on a deck of cards.
• Your child can play games, such as checkers and chess, to see how slides work in real-life situations.
• Your child can use the clock to identify and show how turns work. Turns can go both ways, clockwise and counterclockwise.
• Your child can find repeating patterns that may appear in such things as wallpaper designs, quilts, comforters, or clothing.
• Your child can create his or her own patterns or designs, using flips, slides, and turns.

Math New Chapter: Probability

Dear Parent:

Over the next week, your child will be learning about probability. Understanding probability is essential in many areas of mathematics. In this chapter, your child will be learning to use simple probability language, such as impossible, unlikely, likely, and certain. We will investigate possible outcomes of simple events, such as spinning a spinner, and make predictions about what will happen in simple probability situations. Playing games that involve chance is one way to explore probability. As well, your child will look at the possibility of being able to collect free offers in products such as cereal.

Throughout this time, you and your child can do some activities such as:

• Your child can make a list of events that might or might not happen at home one evening, and then describe the probability of each event using impossiblecertainlikely, or unlikely, and explain his or her choice of probability words.
• Your child can look through your family’s board games for any that use a spinner, and then play the game(s).
• Your child can look through your family’s board games for any that use a spinner, and then predict the probability of spinning each section on each spinner in 40 spins. Your child can spin the spinner to check his or her predictions.
• Your child might make a spinner for doing chores around the house, use the spinner to decide which chore is to be done next, and keep a tally chart of the results for a week.
• Your child can look around the house, especially in the kitchen, to find products that offer free give-away items, and then make a list of the products and the types and numbers of items that can be collected.

Language Homework/Class Update

AA Parents,

I hope all is well. I wanted to inform you that I will not be in class (thurs 16, fri 17, mon 20 and tues 21). There will be a supply teacher coming in for those days. Also note that  I will not be able to send or respond to any emails until WEDNESDAY APRIL 22. The supply teacher will have access to class dojo and will keep you updated inshalla.

If there is something important please call the school and talk to the ADMIN.

Language homework for this week: All of spelling spectrum lesson 26. Spelling test on Monday.

In Class:

Language Students have been working on EQAO prep, spelling, Frindle Novel Study and some work on writing (punctuation and sentence structure)

Social Studies: Students are comparing the pioneer life to their own lives. We are almost finish this aspect, we will move on to learning about First Natives in Canada.

Islamic Studies: Students are learning about respect. We have noticed that some of the students have not been very nice or kind to each other. We have a block building in the classroom that represents our community. Whenever someone is disrespectful, for any reason, then I will remove a block from that community building. Removing a block can cause the whole building to fall, or it might still stand tall. Either way, it will show that we need to cooperate with one another respectfully.

Language Update

AA Dear Parents,

We have been doing 2 major things this week - and will continue for the next couple of weeks.

1. Frindle Novel Study

2. EQAO Prep

we have read and completed chapter 1 and 2 of Frindle. As a class we have read the chapters then students answer question independently. Every Thursday students participate in our guided reading activities where we search for more specific things for example (where in the story does it explain Nick's character). Students practice locating in the novel for specific items. This will help students support their answer by providing evidence - an essential skill for the grade three curriculum.

With regards to EQAO prep. As a class we are reviewing the writing process. In class, we looked at rubrics/scoring guide for the EQAO. Students were able to see what a level 1 answer looks like and what a level 2, 3, and 4 answer looks like.

To begin writing a 1 paragraph response you need;

A web - brainstorm ideas to help organize your writing
Topic/Introductory sentence - tell the reader what you are going to write about (to challenge your self make it interesting and engaging)
Supporting Sentences - include the reasons why the examples are important
Conclusion - write a closing sentence to end the writing

New Math Chapter: Fractions

Dear Parents:

Over the next two weeks, your child will be working with fractions. Students will use fractions to describe parts of a group, parts of a whole, and parts of a measure. They will represent and explain fractions using drawings. They will also model and describe mixed numbers.

Throughout this time, you and your child can do some activities such as:

• Make a list of up to 10 family members your child is familiar with—aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents. Have your child describe fractions about parts of that list. (For example, what fraction are older than 20? What fraction wear glasses? What fraction live in the same town as you?)
• Have your child make a list of the rooms in your house. He or she can then use fractions to describe the rooms. (For example, what fraction of the rooms have a closet? a bed?)
• Have your child explain to you how to cut or divide appropriate food (e.g., pizza, casseroles, cakes) into equal shares of halves, thirds, quarters, sixths, eighths, or tenths.
• Even though we deal mostly with the metric system, many recipes still use imperial measurements. Look at recipes with your child, and discuss the fractional amounts of the various ingredients.

Novel Study Info - Language

AA My Dear Parents,

Some new information about our Novel Study that we started "Frindle."
Every child is getting a novel to borrow. However, it is there responsibility to keep it safe. If it is severely damaged or lost - the replacement cost is 7.19$.

Students have received a booklet full of chapter questions and activities. The students are responsible to bring in their materials every language class.  For every chapter students are responsible to write down the new vocabulary words and definitions using a dictionary. They are required to write one sentence for each.
